Performance that incorporates dance, theater and fabric art. It’s based on the Japanese fable “The Crane Wife,” in which a man rescues an injured crane and returns it to the wild, then marries a mysterious woman whose talent for weaving greatly increases his wealth — and his greed.

Water Stories...
2016

In response to time spent inside a 10’ x 10’ white tent I set up along the Schuylkill River and then the Hillsborough River I created “Water Stories” during the three day period I inhabited the space. Inside the tent, having full view of the Schuylkill River I wanted to explore ideas of language, nature and the passing of time perforating paper with lit incense sticks... reminiscent of ancient temples full of incense sticks burning filling the space with aromatics...
The holes reference language much like a story written with pen or pencil connecting thoughts, giving space for pause.
Please feel free to handle and experience the notebook just as you would a storybook.

Exchange
2016

“Exchange” was inspired in part by a black and white image of a landscape taken at the turn of the century somewhere in Japan. I found it while going through my mother’s personal family photos with her. The exact time, the location and even the identity of the photographer is unknown. My mother could not recall any information directly or indirectly related to the image in her possession. “Exchange” presents as a large format print accompanied by audio inviting the audience to an intimate experience with the photograph and personal conversation surrounding that image between my mother and I, its subject is loss: of country, language, memory, time.
