Iron and Silk

Site-specific Installation Cheney Studio @ the MacDowell Colony
"Iron and Silk" was inspired in part by a black and white image of my mother as a very young girl taken in her home country of Japan. I chanced upon it going through personal family photos with her. The exact time, the location and even the identity of the photographer remains unknown. Through the creation and arrangement of objects and images utilizing photocopies, vintage fabric and silk thread this multi-media installation considers the significance of 'aura' and the photographic image and the potential power photographic images have as replacements for forgotten memories.
